History of Malkata Palace
Malkata Palace, a structure with a footprint of around 50 hectares, was constructed by Pharaoh Amenhotep III during his rule from 1391 to 1353 BCE. A major palace complex, office buildings, and several smaller structures made up the palace. The pharaoh and his family lived there during the month of Akhet (July to October), when living at Thebes, the royal capital, was impractical because of the Nile flood.
The palace was abandoned after Amenhotep III's rule and utilised as a source of building materials until archaeologists repaired and excavated it in the 20th century.
