Itinerary Details
You will be greeted at your hotel in the morning by one of our representatives for a unique day of exploring Egypt. Then you will be transported in a comfortable car for approximately one hour from Alexandria to the City of Rosetta. When you arrive, you'll be greeted by the Rashid Museum, a one-of-a-kind black and red brick home nestled within the charming streets of the city. An expert in the field will be there to guide you through the museum, where you'll have the opportunity to see a remarkable model of the Rosetta Stone. This model showcases the stone's engravings in three different languages: Demotic, Ancient Pharaonic, and Ancient Greek.
Next, we'll guide you through a leisurely stroll around the neighborhood, giving you a glimpse into the vibrant local culture. Along the way, we'll visit bustling markets where vendors proudly display their array of fresh produce, breads, meats, and fish. Our journey will lead us to the beautifully preserved Ottoman homes, showcasing the rich heritage of the area.
Another Alexandria day tour to the Mill of Abu Shaheen will give you the opportunity to visit a house that serves the needs of the family and local community. After exploring the Houses, you'll stroll a short distance with our guide to visit the 'Hanging Mosque', a unique building that stands out among Egyptian mosques. It was built on an elevated level to provide space for storage units below, which are used for shops and supplies.
Finally, we'll guide you to the Citadel of Qaitbay, a magnificent fortress built in 1479 on the outskirts of the city. Located alongside the majestic Nile River, this structure was built as a strategic defense mechanism to safeguard against potential threats from the Mediterranean region. Feel free to take your time and reach the highest point of the Citadel, located next to the protected fences. From there, you will be able to witness the breathtaking views where the Nile River merges with the Mediterranean.
After our visit to the Citadel, we'll make our way back to Alexandria and take a break for lunch at a nearby local restaurant. There are many fascinating sights and opportunities for discovery in Rosetta! After exploring Alexandria, you can make your way back to your hotel or cruise.
