The Unfinished Obelisk

Commissioned during the reign of Queen Hatshepsut (1508-1458 BC), the obelisk ,42 m in height and 1000 tons in weight, was abandoned after a large crack appeared in the granite.
Its unfinished state allows visitors to see the marks and methods used by ancient workers, offering a remarkable glimpse into ancient Egyptian engineering.
Philae Temple
Next, enjoy a memorable visit to Philae Temple, one of Aswan’s most beautiful ancient monuments. Dedicated primarily to the goddess Isis, the temple complex features impressive reliefs, columns, and inscriptions that reflect the religious traditions of ancient Egypt.

One of the most remarkable chapters in the history of Abu Simbel is its relocation. In the 1960s, the temples were carefully dismantled and reconstructed on higher ground as part of an international UNESCO-led campaign to save them from the rising waters of Lake Nasser following the construction of the Aswan High Dam.
